Nooks and Crannies

Tangier Island's uniqueness is going to be hard to beat but we'll try.  We ventured up the Potomac River to St. Mary's River where we anchored in Horseshoe Bend across from St. Mary's College.  What a perfect anchorage-beautiful scenery, solitude, no boat wakes, and a place to walk Buddy.  We did take a walk on the St. Mary's campus which led us to a historic settlement, replicating early colonial life.

Solomon Island was our next Port of Call.  It came with high ravings from many folk but to be quite honest it didn't offer anything special to us.  We tied up to the Tiki Hut dock for the night and we were entertained by the patrons and their comings and goings by boat and by car.  Actually this was the first place we've been to that had more young (30's-40's) than old tourists-very refreshing!

We cruised over to Cambridge and Easton, MD where we spent some time walking these eastern shore towns.  Easton is more upscale and has lots of shopping with some historic architecture thrown in. Many folks retire here as it has lots of appeal.

Our next destination was St. Michael's, MD.  We had been here before but thought it was worth another visit and we were right.  Besides being picturesque, it has one of the best museums explaining the Chesapeake Bay and its culture.  We thoroughly enjoyed it and gained insight into the bay.  We watched boat builders restoring Bay boats, examined a waterman's wharf we have been seeing all along the Bay and climbed the Hooper's Strait Lighthouse.  We would recommend this museum to all.

We were anchored right in the harbor in front of the museum and The Inn at Perry Cabin.  The Inn looked familiar and then we learned it was the setting for "The Wedding Crashers".  Perfect!
